Network-based Diffusion Analysis: A New Method For Detecting Social Learning

Social learning is a key mechanism by which many animals acquire adaptive behaviours from other group members, which eventually can lead to the emergence of traditions, with human culture being the most complex example. However, our ability to investigate social learning dynamics in animals is limited by the methods that are currently available. We address this challenge with an innovative, new approach that analyzes the spread of traits through animal groups.
